Majirane Coffee Cooperative

Established in 2020 as a method of strengthening livelihoods in the face of ongoing conflict and displacement, the 854 members of Majirane Cooperative are split across three washing stations in the Mutungirwa and Nyamasasa regions of South Kivu Province, DRC. These members produce both coffee and cocoa, benefitting from community guidance and specialised processing equipment, raising the quality and money earned from their coffee.

Olame's motto is "Live for our coffee, and by our coffee". The group formed in 2019 when a local lack of market access was driving farmers to cross Lake Kivu in order to sell their coffee in Rwanda - a practice which resulted in many cases of drowning.
Now with two sites in Bukumbi and Kihumba, Olame has 1245 members, having created a more viable path for selling coffee on Idjwi Island. Not only that, but the group also supplies farmers with good quality seedlings, agricultural training, and small loans.
Cooperative Tujenge Kivu

Cultivating coffee in the Masisi highlands and along the shores of Lake Kivu, Tujenge Kivu was created in August 2021 by its founding 15 members, who subsequently produced and sold 8 tons of coffee that same year. Since then, the cooperative has grown to 600 coffee growers—including 300 who are Rainforest Alliance certified—divided between their Bishange-Luzirandaka and Mupfuni-Shanga micro washing stations.
Tumaini Coffee Cooperative

Founded in 2015, Tumaini is made up of two washing stations located in Kabare Territory, South Kivu Province. With a mission to encourage the participation of women and younger generations in coffee production, Tumaini provides its 1125 members with technical support in cultivation and high quality seedlings, with the aim to expand support to one day providing farmers with equipment and official training in agriculture.
Coopérative Agricole des Producteurs de Café du Kivu (CAPCKI)

With a main washing station in Kalungu and two micro washing stations in Murambi and Mpumbi, CAPCKI is a cooperative made up of 562 farmers in the Kalehe Territory of South Kivu Province. Formed in 2015, CAPKI has been able to produce an average of 17 containers of coffee since 2022 a process which opens up around 300 seasonal job roles for loacal communities.
